Finnish Translation

Finnish

Finnish, also known as Suomi, belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family and is closely related to Estonian and Sami. It is the official language of Finland and is also spoken by Finnish minority groups in Sweden, Norway, Russia and some other countries.

Finnish vocabulary also has influences from Uralic, Germanic and Slavic. However, many words are unique to Finnish and have no direct equivalents in other languages. Finnish script is also based on the Latin alphabet with a few additional letters.

The Finnish language plays an important role in Finnish culture and identity. Finnish literature, poetry and music have a rich tradition and are written in the Finnish language.
